im doing my graduation paper on space colonization..?
what are a few of the economic benefits of colonizing space? for example, ive already written about the valuable metals in asteroids. and space tourism, solar space power, and space materials. anything else? any sites that go in detail of space colonization?? any experts on this?
Joselyn, possibly one of the most important discoveries for all humanity lies on the surface of the Moon. One that could power the Earth for thousands of years AND reverse global warming.

However, there IS a substance, Helium-3, which theoretically can be used as the fuel in nuclear fusion, create a lot of energy but without the destructive radioactive neutrons.

There is very little Helium-3 on Earth. Helium-3 is a by-product of the Sun, and it has been spewing Helium-3 out into space since it's formation. Helium-3 won't land on Earth due to both Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere. However, the Moon has been soaking it up for billions of years. The Moon has no magnetic field and it has no atmosphere. (That is the same reason why the radiation emitted from the Sun is so much more dangerous to astronauts on the Moon, because there is nothing to deflect it).

Scientists always theorized that nuclear fusion using Helium-3 instead of Hydrogen was safer and could allow it to occur without damaging the reactor. That was a Eureka moment. THE MOON!! The scientists immediately went to Johnson Space Center (or wherever the moon rocks are being kept) and asked if the moon rocks had traces of Helium-3. NASA said they did, but NASA had no idea why Helium-3 was important.

Reactors that can create the necessary reactions won't be ready until about the year 2050. It is necessary for the United States to start mining operations as soon as they can get back to the Moon because Russia and China are already planning to set up mining operations. Imagine if there were billions of tons of oil on the Moon. Whoever gets there first and claims it, wins.
