Solar Power Phone Charger
Solar Power Phone Charger
Looking for a specific mobile solar charger..?

I'm looking for a solar charger that could adapt voltage wise and plug wise for the following devices:
A Dell Inspiron 1420
A Canon sx10is (
An Ipod classic
A sony ericcson phone (W380i)

I've been looking but many chargers don't have all of their adapters listed and many also don't say anything about laptops. Is the voltage disparity between what a laptop requires and what a phone requires too great to put into one charger? Is the sunlight too weak for the power a laptop requires?
Thanks

The sunlight isn't too weak, it is just the power you need would not be a small panel.
You might need at least a 4 to 6 sq ft panel. Maybe 50W at 18V

For your iPod and phone, you likely can use a mobile charger. Some can run from 12 to 24V.

The camera uses AA batteries, so you will need a NiMH charger with solar, or that can accept 12 to 24V.

If you are reading this, then you want to learn more about the iphone solar charger which means you are at the right place, let's begin. First, you have to unpack the Solar Surge and make sure you have all the contents, the instruction booklet, the USB Cable, and of course the solar charger. Be sure to check the Surge itself, if you see a plastic film piece on the solar powered charger, just remove it. It is a manufacturer's protective film. It is like the same type of film used when you first get a new phone that you simply peel off, this is the same thing.

Make sure your computer is next to you and that it has a USB available. Plug the USB from the Surge to your computer's USB port. You are to charge the iphone solar charger for 3 hours. You are doing this so that the internal battery gets a full charge. After the 3 hours, simply unplug both ends and insert your phone into the Surge. Now make sure you DO NOT Force the phone into the Surge. You could damage the unit and your iphone, you have to remember that iphone is made for the Surge, hold the phone at the top of the solar charger and slide it into the groves until it is seated on the 30 pin connector.

The solar powered case is ready for use. Now go on and live like you would like nothing has changed, if you do not and constantly think about the solar charger, it will drive you nuts, believe me. Go to the mall, the store, whatever it is that you do. Soon down the line, you will want to start using the solar power, correct? That is one of the major reasons for purchasing the solar charger. Keep reading, because we are about to talk about how to get the best use out of the iphone solar charger.

Go and DOWNLOAD the Free Application named, The Solar Planner by Novothink. This is App is perfect when you need to determine charge times. It has a tool in which you can select the function of what you want to use on the iphone and then how long you will use it, and then it does the math for you, giving you the time you will need to keep the solar powered case in the sun. I love that this tool even exists.

Here are some recommendations of where you should place the iphone solar charger when you are ready to charge it. If you are at the office, I suggest you place it in front of your window sill if available, if not, on the computer desk as long as you have sunlight coming through the windows, place the charger in front of it. You will see a little red light on the Surge come on, but make sure you do not stand in front of the light when you check the red indicator light. If you are at home, do the same thing. Additionally, I have done some testing and you can charge it with indoor lighting, but the Surge has to be in front of the bulb very close. I recommend you stick with the outdoor lighting. If you are at the beach, whenever you are not using the solar charger, leave the Surge upwards facing the sun. And if you are using it, do the same thing.

Here is the way I use my iphone solar charger case. I charge my Surge and iphone throughout the night. And when I am able to leave in the morning, I unplug both and head off to work. I place the Surge facing up in the passenger sear or dashboard, it depends though, I do not want to let the Surge slide out the window. And then on my drive, the Surge gets as much sun juice as possible. At the office I plug in the iPhone into the Surge and head into the office.

On Fridays, I change my routine up so that I get a full charge on my iphone by during this. I will head to the office like before, but at 2pm I put the solar case back in my car and leave it on my dash board. And of course I leave the window cracked so there is a slight breeze and the charger does not overheat. And then when I get off of work, all of us head to the bar or something and my iphone is fully charged. This way I know it is ready for the night. So you can see, I have a whole system so that I get the most use out of my iphone solar case and I hope you do the same.
