Just as many people have begun to take an interest in the solar power as an alternative, the same applies to the wind energy systems. In fact, many favor this type of new resource feeling that it is even a more resourceful way to go than other alternatives. Many of us refer to them as the old windmills that were used many years ago when there was no such thing as electricity. It has become just another example of how history repeats itself. Here we are now returning to a method used by our forefathers. It is ironic how we in our great quest for technology overlooked the power of something as simple as the wind. Now the very thought of the wind being able to put substantial money back in our pockets by saving us energy charges is quite inviting.
Although we are resorting back to an old method of power generation such as wind power, we are utilizing much more elaborate methods to produce it. Not all that long ago wind power generation seemed to be reserved for the business sector only. Now that these wind generating systems have become more affordable it's opening the doors for residential uses. It is not uncommon for a resident owner to be able to purchase a scaled down version of one of these systems at a most afford price. As your need grows and you feel confident in the system of wind power you can upgrade to something a little more elaborate. The system ties in with your standard power supply and it's just a matter of having the turbines for the wind installed. There are the choices of either going grid tie or off grid.
Grid-tie:
With the grid tie system, you can have the best of both worlds, as you will receive power from both the wind system and your power system. When the wind power is functioning this is the power that will be utilized. In slow wind generation, your regular power supply will be used. If you are using more wind power than the excess, regular power will be fed back to your supplier and you will receive a credit for this. If you really want to be cost efficient then purchase backup batteries will allow you to store your power. Then when there are power outages the inverter will simply switch over to battery power. This is a great alternative of power supply during a blackout period. When an outage occurs the wing system switches over to battery supply then automatically cuts off when the power returns.
Off grid
When you are off grid you are very self reliant on your wind power. You may opt to supplement this with solar power as well. With the off grid, system there is no electrical system to tie into and your wind power generated energy must be store in battery cells. Simply relying a wind generator as your complete power source takes a little getting used to. Once you feel comfortable with it however you won't even give electrical power another thought. What you should think about and take credit for however is your contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emission that is created by convention power generators.
